The R&D Branch under Research and Quality Development Division of Malaysian Pepper Board was entrusted to undertake intensive research studies on black pepper for improvement of productivity as well as to transform the conventional production line from raw material processing to value-added products production towards sustainable development of pepper industry in Malaysia.
The Roles of R&D Section
To conduct R&D for comprehensive development
of pepper industry;
To develop pepper R&D infrastructures
and facilities;
To establish Pepper Germplasm Centre;
To produce quality planting materials;To produce value-added products;
To produce pepper based food products;
To publish and disseminate scientific
information to the public; and
To provide technical advisory services
to the public.
Upstream Sector
Revolutionising planting practices via
implementation of organic farming, intercropping system and controlled environment
system (IOTs);
Conduct innovation studies on farming
practices and farming inputs includes alternative supports and low-cost farming
inputs;
Development of environmental friendly
biocontrol methods for pepper diseases and insect pests;
Development of tissue culture methods for
producing of disease-
Development of mobile-apps for diagnosis
of pepper diseases and nutritional deficiencies;
Development of biological markers
through biotechnological studies; and
Implementation of pepper breeding
programs to produce new and quality pepper varieties.
Downstream Sector
Exploration
of the new applications of pepper extracts in the development of beauty and personal
care products;
Conduct studies on the effectiveness of
pepper extracts as an active ingredient in the development of nutraceutical
products;
Development of pepper based food
products; and
Transfer of product development technologies,
processes and formulations to pepper entrepreneurs.
